On the eve of the ExxonMobil Bislett Games, a host of World and Olympic Champions met the media at Oslo’s City Hall during the traditional Strawberry Party. After today’s feast comes the serious business of a full Diamond League programme at the Bislett Stadium on Thursday evening with some very tasty encounters to whet the appetite.

The women’s 200m at the ExxonMobil Bislett Games has become one of the most intriguing clashes of the IAAF Diamond League. The clash between the “flying Dutchwoman” Dafne Schippers and Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson is truly a match up to wet any appetite.

The Dream Mile is synonymous with the ExxonMobil Bislett Games. There is virtually no other race on the track and field circuit that connects an event, a city and a recognised standard of excellence as does the Dream Mile in Oslo. It has become a contest that is immediately acknowledged through its particular history and its resume of quality of results.

The pole vault competition at this year's ExxonMobil Bislett Games on 9 June promises to be one of the most eagerly anticipated encounters of the IAAF Diamond League season. It will be the ultimate confrontation of athlete against athlete at many levels: Renaud Lavillenie, the Olympic champion Vs. Shawn Barber, the World champion European technique and preparation (consistently jumping throughout the “off season”) Vs. Traditional American style (periodization developing individual facets of the jump – approach, take off, etc.) France Vs. Canada (which was once a colony of Imperial France )

Genzebe Dibaba to attempt the mile world record at Bislett
Genzebe Dibaba goes world record hunting in Scandinavia this June and will attempt to break two world records in a week. Her first race will be at the ExxonMobil Bislett Games on 9 June where her aim is set at the “Dream Mile” world record. Then she travels on to the next IAAF Diamond League event, the Bauhaus-galan in Stockholm on 16 June, where she will try to improve her own 1500 metres world record.

The new kids in the Blocks – Bislett 100m men
Oslo 19 April 2016 – The future of the world sprinting will be on display when two young athletes face the starter’s gun in the IAAF Diamond League 100m at Oslo’s ExxonMobil Bislett Games on 9 June. Canada’s Andre De Grasse and USA’s Trayvon Bromell tied in 3rd position for the bronze medal at last year’s 100 m at the World Championships. They are the definitive prospects in global sprinting and have taken remarkably similar avenues to the top.

Flying Duchtwoman will be in Oslo
Oslo 5 April 2016 – The legend of the “Flying Dutchman“ concerned a doomed ship that never reached port. However by 9th of June 2016, the current “Flying Dutchwoman”, Dafne Schippers, will have reached port and will compete in Oslo’s Bislett stadium

Bislett welcomes Rabat to the IAAF Diamond League
During the general assembly of the IAAF Diamond League March 2nd, the meet in Rabat, Morocco was officially included as one of fourteen meets in the IAAF Diamond League. Rabat will replace New York.
