2011 Bislett Games Event Review
The Samsung Diamond League event in Oslo is history. What to say after this memorable night at the Bislett stadium? That Usain Bolt is back in business? He never was out, “business was just slow”, he told the media at the final Press Conference. That he was happy with his race? Of course, he was just 4/100 of a second over the stadium record set by Frank Fredricks in 1996. “I would like to come back in good shape next year”, he said. Or that he doesn’t like snow and winter that much? We know, “I’m a sunshine person.”
10 pm – Bolt crowns himself King of Bislett
It started to rain around 9:25 pm, and it was a heavy rain which lasted for the rest of the meet. In these adverse weather conditions, Men’s Javelin Throw finished with a big surprise. Home town hero Andreas Thorkildson, injured, wasn’t at the start, and everybody expected a win of Finnish Tero Pitkämäki who was first at the Bislett Games in 2005, 2007 and 2009. But the 2007 World Champion finished in fifth spot (80.22m) and far away from the winner. Matthias de Zordo from Germany threw the Javelin at 83.94m and won in front of Robert Osthuizen (RSA/82.07) and Petr Frydrych (CZE/81.09).
9.37 pm - Semenya only third
There are just 10 minutes between now and the appearance of King Bolt, the fastest man in the World. But the action goes on and on at the Bislett stadium.
8.47 pm – Bye bye Moses Kiptanui, welcome Paul Koech!

8.05pm - Northug beats Hellner also at the Bislett stadium
1.42 hours remain to bridge, and then it is Usain Bolt time. But the 2011 Bislett Games are rich in highlights!
7.48pm – Shot Put Women with Stadium record
2.00 hours, and it will be time for the highlight of the evening, the 200m men with Jamaica’s superstar Usain Bolt. At 7.30pm, he entered the stadium saying: “I will try my best”. He took a look at Marcus Hellner and Petter Northug jr. on their rollerskis and said: “I have never been on skis, and I think they are better on snow.” Both were introduced to Bolt, pictures were taken. Then, Bolt gave “High Fives” to the girls of the Opening Show and left to prepare for his race.
7.14pm – Kanter wins SDL Discus Throw competition
2.33 hours and Usain Bolt, “Lightning Bolt”, will run on the Bislett stadium track for the first time in his career.
5.40pm – Samsung Diamond League in Oslo underway
4.07 hours until Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world, will appear. A great evening of World Class Track and Field competitions is about to begin. The stadium is still more or less empty, but the Press Room is already filled. More than 100 photographers and journalists have been accredited, more than 200 people from different television stations are on site.
Bolt Likes Oslo, its People and its Track
When you talk about famous buildings in Oslo, you will -- sooner than later – talk about the City Hall. Its characteristic architecture and artworks make it unique. The Nobel Peace Prize Giving Ceremony on every December 10th makes it politically worldwide important.
Rono? Like it!
59 year old Henry K Rono has 4114 friends on facebook (status at 7:06 pm of June 8th, 2011), and this is a great evidence that social media is not only something for the young generation. “I spend a lot of time on FB”, Rono says, “In this way, I’m always in contact with my athletes…”
