Rarely has the world seen a better starting field in discus than what is to be gathered in the cage at Bislett during this year's Oslo Bislett Games. There will be a party of long throws when the top five at this year's world list, as well as the top five in the World Rankings, gather for a duel.
The army commander in the event is the swede Daniel Ståhl. For over 100 weeks he has been at the top of the World Rankings in the event. Last year, he topped the world statistics with 71.37, and his best result from 2019 at 71.86 gives the reigning world champion a fourth place in the world through all time.
This weekend we got the two first 70-meter throws - and both performers are coming to Bislett.
This 2021 season best list is topped by the Ståhl with 70.55, followed by the Slovak Kristjan Ceh with 70.35, Swedish Simon Pettersson with 69.48, Austrian Lukas Weisshaidinger with 69.04 and Lithuanian Andrius Gudzius with 68.62.
Do we mention that the top five in the world rankings; Ståhl, Jamaican Fredrick Dacres, Weisshaidinger, Gudzius and Romanian Alin Firfirica are all in place, you can see that the quality of the starting field is sky high.
And on top of all this, we have our own Ola Stunes Isene who has a personal best of 67.78 and a seasonal best of 65.27. Here it is just to look forward to a competition far out of the ordinary.
