Norwegian young gun vs. American Olympic Champion
The American is one of the highest credentialed athletes in track and field today, with two Olympic Gold Medals and four World Championships Gold Medals to his name. (He has gold medals at 4 x 400m relay.)
Warholm is a multi-talented athlete who first came to notice as a decathlete (World Youth Champion), but in recent seasons he has made enormous progress at the 400m hurdles slashing the Norwegian record at both the European Championships and at the Rio Olympics.
2016 was a steep learning curve for Karsten Warholm and what better way to gauge his development than to go head to head with one of the best 400m hurdlers of this century. Clement, who has great speed and regularly runs the 4 x 400m relay for USA will be opposed to an athlete with similar strengths. As the Norwegian also has plenty of flat speed over 400m and is developing on similar lines to what Clement originally did a decade ago.
Karsten has started 2017 with some incredible indoor performances which indicate he will be more than ready at Bislett. His time of 45.96 at 400m ranked him in the top ten in the world and then when competing in an international match in Finland he equalled the World Indoor Record for 300m hurdles with a performance of 34.92! Logically, based on the quality of that running Warholm can get very near the 48 second barrier for the 400m hurdles this summer.
