7.48pm – Shot Put Women with Stadium record

2.00 hours, and it will be time for the highlight of the evening, the 200m men with Jamaica’s superstar Usain Bolt. At 7.30pm, he entered the stadium saying: “I will try my best”. He took a look at Marcus Hellner and Petter Northug jr. on their rollerskis and said: “I have never been on skis, and I think they are better on snow.” Both were introduced to Bolt, pictures were taken. Then, Bolt gave “High Fives” to the girls of the Opening Show and left to prepare for his race.

The Jamaican can expect nice conditions. This time the weather forecast got it right. Around 7pm, it stopped raining in Oslo and the conditions became gentle. At this moment, the Bislett stadium was half filled and the ladies competed in Triple Jump, Pole Vault and Shot Put.

Later, 26 year old Valerie Adams (NZE) won the women’s Shot Put competition with a new stadium record. Her attempt of 20.26m was two centimenters longer than the one of Nunu Abashdize (UKR) in 1985. Nobody but her was able to pass the 20-meter-mark, but the Olympic Champion did it in five of six occasions. Adams has won four competitions in Australia this year, all with attemps between 20.13m and 20.55m. Nadzeya Ostapchuk (BLR) finished second (19.92m), China’s Lijiao Gong third (19.57m).
